Shimano 2013 Men's All Mountain Bike Shoe - SH-MW81 (Black - 44)

Product Description

Fat-tired bikes have shed new light on riding through the coldest months. Terrain that was once impassable is now challenging and inviting, provided that you have the right equipment. But, this fact still remains -- if you're going to commit to serious winter riding, and you're not intending on platform pedals, you need to invest in waterproof, insulated footwear like the Shimano SH-MW81 Shoes. They combine light insulation and a GORE-TEX liner to keep your feet dry and toasty -- no matter how deep into the wilderness your ambition takes you. Some might claim that the cost of winter-specific shoes can't be justified for riders on a budget. We disagree. Overshoes are great, but if you ride off-road during winter with any frequency, they're likely to be shredded over hike-a-bike sections, rendering them useless by the end of the season. Additionally, it's critical to maximize your traction on icy trails and snow-laden cross courses. Therefore, why cover your shoes' tread with slippery Lycra and pretend that it's the best solution? Shimano offers one of the widest ranges of shoe lasts (or shapes) in the industry. So, to clarify, the SH-MW81 uses the Volume Performance last -- making it wider in the toe box and across the ball of the foot. This gives it a fit that emphasizes comfort and stability, and allows room for thick socks and custom orthotics. The three Velcro straps provide ample security for your foot, and their offset positioning prevents unnatural pinching and pressure. Additionally, they won't freeze or get clogged with snow like a buckle system might. The MW81 Shoes have a fiberglass-reinforced polyamide sole that's stiff, but flexes enough for comfortable when you trudge through waist-high drifts or stop into the local coffee shop. The upper is constructed of tough, stretch-resistant synthetic leather, and reflectors on the back and sides of the shoes increase your visibility to motorists in low-light conditions.

5Warm & Dry
By KAP
These shoes are very light and keep my feet warm and dry. I rode for over two hours in temperatures below 32 degrees and my feet stayed warm. I also rode in a heavy rain, sleet and snow shower for over an hour and again my feet were warm and dry. These shoes work for me!

5Finally warm feet!
By Barry Brooks
I have been riding for several years and winter riding has always been a challenge. But after trying unsuccessfully to get a pair of shoe covers to transform my summer shoes into winter shoes and never finding more that flimsy toe covers in my size, I broke down and ordered these. What a difference! I suffer from poor circulation in my feet anyway so these are just fantastic. Only my first ride today but they worked so well I wanted to get the review in right away for others who are looking for warm feet on winter rides. I've had my other pair of Shimano shoes for years and they are still very comfortable and holding up nicely.

Took my first ride yesterday on Long Island with the tempature at 28 with a wnw wind of 15, wind chill in teens. Rode for two hours and feet did not get cold. A first for the contitions. Like the shoe very much. Takes awhile to get used putting on.
