When I shop for shoes I end up looking for 13d/e to 14D/E size shoes (USA sizes). Accordingto the foot scale at the shops my feet are about 13.5D but I have thick ankles. Point of all this is I have a hard time finding shoes. I tried a pair of Pearl Izumi MB shoesat 49M which is supposedly equivalent to 14D USA size. I had to send those back as they were too tight on my big toes. The only 50 M's I could find in the style and price range I was attracted to here ON Amazonwas these Lake Men's LX140's. They fit great. They feel good on my feet when walking around and have easy to adjust velcro straps. The shoe appears solidly made and does not have a nasty odor emitting from the leather bits. Most of the shoe body is some sort of (I presume) a wick like material that is stretchy. They are a bit of work to get on due to the 'sweat sock' bit that is sewed in with the zipper onthe back but not overly tedious in light of the fact I can't be too picky (lack of bike shoes available my size here on Amazon. They are not very pretty/handsome but again, beggars can't be choosers. The soles seem to have enough stiffness suitable for biking, however I've not had a chanceto use them for their purpose. THey are pretty comfortable for just walking around with justenough flex to be useful for that activity. For me they are a perfect shoe as I wanted a pair I could at least walk around in when I reachmy destination. So many bike shoes are not meant to be walked in, these can be used for that fine. Also, these shoes should work just fine with pedals that have no clips (plain platform pedals). I can't comment on clips yet, I don't have any. The bike I plan to use them with does not haveclips just yet. I may upgrade it to use clips. (Trek Utility Transporter which has not arrived yet) [...] Once I get a chance to smoke test these for bike use I'll amend this review. Be sure to order biking friendly socks like DeFeet LevitatorLite's. They are much thinner thanplain ol cotton socks and wick the sweat away quicker. Clodhopper size need XL or better.

By cmh
I normally take cycling shoes in a 47 or 48 (European size) and normal shoes in a 12.5. I tried these in both a 12.5 and a 13, and both were too small for me. The 13 (apparently a 47) was good in the length, but tight throughout the middle of my foot. Apparently they run a bit narrower than most shoes. For reference, I run Specialized and SIDI summer shoes, size 47 on the road and size 48 on the MTB.Sizing issues aside, they look fairly well made, and a friend who also got these absolutely loves his. The sizing just didn't work for me. Too bad, as well, since a nice winter shoe would be great in the next couple of months, and you just can't beat the price on these. I priced out SIDI's winter shoes, and I think I'll just keep running heavier socks through this winter.
